Magritte - Cloud
Ever since I started my ceramics journey, I’ve had it in the back of my mind to create a collection inspired by the sublime art of my favorite painter, the Belgian artist “René Magritte.”
This ceramic piece serves a dual purpose: it can be used as a vase or as a lantern.
A ceramic vase or lantern inspired by René Magritte’s iconic clouds is a beautiful concept—it playfully bridges the gap between an everyday object and a surrealist masterpiece.
“Ceci n'est pas une vase” Concept Line
- Shape: This handmade ceramic vase was wheel-thrown into an elegant round shape.
- Glaze: My unique, self-designed glaze recipe, resulting in my signature color: Mint
- Details: At the top, I’ve created a cutout inspired by Magritte’s clouds.
- The Cloud Element: The upper rim of the vase isn’t straight but shaped like the undulating contours of a billowing cloud. When flowers are placed inside, they appear to sprout directly from a cloud.

- Shape: This handmade ceramic lantern was thrown on the potter’s wheel into an elegant round shape.
- Glazed: using my unique, self-designed glaze recipe that results in my signature color: Mint
- Details: At the top, I’ve created a cutout inspired by Magritte’s clouds.
- The Cloud Element: A lantern inspired by René Magritte’s clouds beautifully brings to life the magical, dreamlike atmosphere of his surrealism. This lantern plays directly with light, shadow, and the illusion of the sky. It casts a soft, warm, and layered glow in which the clouds take on depth as soon as the candle is lit. It casts shifting cloud shadows onto the surroundings as the candlelight flickers.
